Use Cases

Japan's near-future society to arrive with local 5G

Toward Society 5.0, where people can work optimally and achieve their full potential

Local 5G will be standardized as a communication infrastructure in all industries in the future. 5G systems with "ultra-high speed, low latency, and multiple simultaneous connections" will be used in manufacturing, logistics, construction, train stations, hospitals, and everywhere else, changing the way we work.

For example, automated driving for transportation, AI for predicting future accidents, and robots for factory automation - the near-future society that humanity has been dreaming of, Society 5.0, is now dependent on the innovation of communication technology using 5G. A truly human-centered society will be born, where we can work optimally and exercise our abilities beyond the limits of human behavior and cognition.
Society 5.0...a society that can achieve both economic development and solutions to social issues through a system that highly integrates virtual and real space.

Industrial Innovation Accelerated by Local 5G

Local 5G (ultra-high speed, low latency, and multiple simultaneous connections) will accelerate technological innovation in every aspect of business by constantly connecting people, things, and AI.

  • Surveillance cameras

High-speed uplink of high-definition video is possible. There is no risk of communication congestion or interference, and clear, uninterrupted data can be acquired. The private network allows you to add camera terminals at low cost and build a secure remote monitoring system.

  • Automatic operation

Low latency real-time transmission enables "semi-automatic driving" operated by a person remotely, or unmanned "automatic driving" on a set route. Currently, ABIT is participating in a demonstration experiment for automatic driving of amphibious ships. Practical use in the local 5G area is just around the corner.

  • FA and wireless

Wireless networks in factories allow for improved lines and layouts, and flexible changes to production lines to meet needs. Also, real-time control of AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicles) will make it possible to supply parts to production lines automatically and autonomously.

  • Smart Glasses

Teaching and operation by skilled technicians can be performed remotely through the smart glasses of on-site workers. ABIT is participating in a demonstration experiment of remote technical training by skilled workers at a factory of a partner company.

Smart Factories Designed with Local 5G

Local 5G will solve the management issues facing the Japanese manufacturing industry and contribute greatly to improving the efficiency of production processes and reducing costs. ABIT is responding to a wide range of needs, including the introduction of local 5G in conjunction with factory renovations and the design of communication environments for reconstruction.

  • Production Line Renewal

    Production Line Renewal

The introduction of local 5G has enabled the factory network to go wireless. This will enable flexible layout changes, such as a high-mix, variable-volume production system in response to demand and orders.

  • Labor saving and human resource utilization

Labor saving and human resource utilization

FA such as remote operation of robots and real-time control of AGVs will save manpower. In addition, remote teaching and operation by humans will make it possible to utilize skilled human resources and work remotely.

  • Utilization of Data

    Utilization of Data

High-precision image data from sensors and cameras can be used to "visualize, analyze, and address" production processes in real time. In addition, the data resources can be utilized for business and quality improvement.

Local 5G will make your business stronger

Local 5G, which began commercialization in the sub-6GHz band in December 2020, is expected to start full-scale operation in manufacturing plants in 2022 and spread to automobiles, construction, and medicine at a high speed in 2023. ABIT has been participating in the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications' 5G demonstration experiments since 2017, and in 2019, we became the first company in Japan to obtain a preliminary license for local 5G, and we have overwhelming know-how and experience in the development and implementation of local 5G systems.

In every era, the first to introduce new technologies have succeeded in differentiating their products and services, reducing costs, and gaining first-mover advantage to dominate the market. Now is a good time to introduce local 5G, as the dash from demonstration experiments to implementation begins.

Case Studies

  • Demonstration and verification using actual systems for FA (Interconnection verification with various industrial communication standards)

Demonstration and verification using actual systems for FA
(Interconnection verification with various industrial communication standards)

With the cooperation of Takebishi Corporation, a company that deals with FA equipment, we cross-connected with MELSEC, which is widely used in domestic factories. We confirmed the actual operation with a system that simulates slider control, and compared various KPIs between the wired network and local 5G. The test results demonstrated that it is possible to migrate from the existing wired network to local 5G without any obstacles.

STNet has been paying attention to the potential of local 5G from early on, and has started demonstration experiments ahead of other companies with the aim of solving local issues using local 5G.
ABIT is supporting the demonstration experiment with its local 5G demonstration set AU-500.

Starting in February 2020, the town of Naganohara in Gunma Prefecture is working on a project supported by the Nippon Foundation called the "Demonstration Experiment on Automated and Unmanned Operation of Amphibious Ships (Yamba Smart Mobility Project)" in the Yamba Dam area. As a member of the consortium, ABIT is supporting the demonstration experiment with local 5G.
